The Bering Strait School District, in Northwest Alaska, serves fifteen isolated villages on the Seward Peninsula, on the eastern end of the Norton Sound, and on two islands in the Bering Sea. Current enrollment is approxiamtely 1800 students and is almost 100% Alaska Native Inupiaq, Yupik or Siberian Yupik Eskimo.
Although the total number of students served is relatively small, the area covers approximately 80,000 square miles. Most of the schools are accessible only by small "bush" aircraft.
The District Office for the Bering Strait School District (BSSD) is located in Unalakleet. BSSD operates K-12th grade programs at Brevig Mission, Diomede, Elim, Gambell, Golovin, Koyuk, Saint Michael, Savoonga, Shaktoolik, Shishmaref, Stebbins, Teller, Unalakleet, Wales, and White Mountain. Many schools also have pre-school programs. These communities range in size from population of 150 up to 900. Schools have 40 to 250 students.

The Bismarck Public School District has been in the education business since 1873. Our school district is growing and we have over 10,800 students. There are 24 schools in the district: 15 elementary schools (K-6), three middle schools (7-9), two high schools (10-12) and one alternative high school, a Career-Tech Center, and BECEP for children with special needs ages 0-6 and Head Start. The Standing Rock Community School is located in Fort Yates, ND. The school is located in a beautiful scenic and geographical area on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation along the west bank of the Missouri Rivers approximately 60 miles south of Bismarck, ND. The community of Fort Yates is the Sioux County seat and the Tribal Headquarters for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
